POP YOUR FRESH!

Now that the dreary days of winter are behind us officially on the calender, it is time to focus on spring and the sunny, warmer and happy ( or hoppy) times ahead! Nothing says spring like a beautiful styling of fresh flowers. While many people still associate certain flowers such as Tulips, Daffodils, and Hyacinths with spring, we know that these flowers are pretty much available year round. So where does that leave us when we want to make a spring splash? The answer is COLOR!
Adding a pop or wow factor to a floral styling is as simple as finding your color wheel and look for the intense colors of spring. Choosing colors that are ‘Super Saturated’ often give us the impact we are looking for. Sunny yellow, Hot pink, Electric blue, Vibrant orange, Strong violet and Citric green, are all examples of saturated color that are easy to find in flowers.
Gerbera Daisies are one type of flower that come naturally in many of the above mentioned colors. Carnations, Roses, and Chrysanthemums also are grown with intense color saturation. But start thinking outside the box and use some other flowers that might offer a solution to brightening up your spring floral designs.
One flower that still has a fairly short window of availability is Boronia. It is a very similar to Heather in the growth pattern, however, the bell cups are much larger and very intense in color. The length of Boronia is usually longer than traditional Heather and the stems are covered in hot pink florets. It adds a punch to spring arrangements like few other products can. Boronia can be used as a filler material or also because of its woody stem, it can be used as a vertical or horizontal placement without adding additional reinforcement. When used in this fashion, it becomes very architectural in appearance. Boronia can also be fashioned into a faux handle and secured with a wired ribbon to create a handled basket effect or can also be secured around the perimeter of a basket for a decorative edge or collar effect.
These are just a few ideas for using Boronia, but you better act quick as the growing season is short and the possibilities are endless!
