SUMMER SENSATIONS

With so many varieties of flowers and foliages available throughout the year, a few still only make a limited appearance at certain times of the year. Summer is one of those seasons that bring us a special selection of some of the most beautiful selections.
Summertime favorites might include Eremurus, which is a tall stately line flower that similar to a Liatris opens from the bottom up. Another summertime favorites are Sunflowers, Poppies and Sweet Peas. Sunflowers bring a dramatic splash of color and texture to a floral styling. Often presented in a mono-botanical vase styling, these bold flowers bring the sun indoors and really light up a room! The unusual form and bright color of Poppies draw the viewer to them for closer inspection and appreciation. They too can be presented as a mono-botanical presentation or combine well with other summer garden favorites to create a ‘grandma’s cutting garden’ type feel. These flowers can play a sophisticated role or a casual look depending on what they are paired with. Sweet Peas are of similar character in the fact that they can be used alone or combined with other summer flowers for a delicate, softer presentation. Although small and delicate in appearance, these quite beauties pack a punch when it comes to fragrance. They are natures own room freshener.
Cottage yarrow not only gives dynamic color contribution, it also provides an interesting texture to summer arrangements. Scabiosa, which is now available, is similar to Poppies with its delicate papery petals but makes a quieter, subtle addition. Both have beautiful floral contributions, but also have unique and interesting pods after the flower has been enjoyed.
Bombay Celosia is one of the more interesting flowers because of its distinct growth pattern. Its erratic growth gives each stem its own character and interest. Bombay Celosia works well in vases and performs well in floral foam. Placing the Celosia close to the floral foam creates wonderful basing interest. The vibrant and rich colors make it a summer favorite for many.
