MORPHING MOMS

Many of today’s moms are not the traditional mom of yesteryear. Many work outside the home, are well educated professionals and have diverse interests. Recognizing the diversity is an important step in making a successful Mothers Day happen.
While there are still many moms who prefer a more traditional styling, it is time to get to know your client base and explore some styling and flower opportunities. This exploration gives you more of a signature or boutique look to your selections. Take a minute and think about the clients in your market area. Once you start knowing who your customers are, it is easier to market to them.
Traditional collections can be presented in an upscale way. Garden collections that were once designed in tall vases can be styles in an upscale cubes or other geometric containers for a more contemporary presentation. Garden collections of Peonies, Star of Bethlehem, Tulips, and Statice surrounded by a ring of ivy looks great either in clear glass as a hand tied bouquet or as a foam based styling. Mini Callas and Dendrobium Orchids make for a very architectural presentation when accented with Fatsia or Xanadu foliage and simple lines of Lily Grass or Bear Grass. Elegant stemmed orchids such as Cymbidium or Phaleanopsis Orchid Sprays-white
Phaleanopsis accented with just a few roses or simple foliage placements project a clean and sophisticated look.
Mono-botanical sty-lings work well for this holiday and are simple to execute. Tulips, Freesia, Lilies, Gerbera Daisies all look beautiful in a vase or other vessel. When using just one type of flower, remember to keep the foliage as simple and clean as well. One or two types of foliage generally does the job.
Whatever the role of mom in your area, remember to offer something unique and distinctive as moms are. This is the time when many people visit your shop or web site so it is time to show your talents and creativity!
